Now in its twentieth year, the annual Tri- C High School Rock Off will return to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, the site of last year’s competition. The annual battle of the high school bands and musicians is presented by Live Nation, Cuyahoga Community College Recording Arts and Technology School, Scene Magazine, Fox 8, 96.5 KISS FM and iHeart Media. Tickets to the High School Rock Off will include admission to the Rock Hall. Participating sponsors include School of Rock, Jim Stewart Recording, Guitar Center and Cleveland Pickle.
“Rock and roll is a big part of Cleveland’s identity, and the Rock Hall is the perfect location to showcase the region’s young, emerging talent,” says Greg Harris, President and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, in a press release. “It’s inspiring to know some High School Rock Off alumni have gone on to successful music careers. We would be proud to have the opportunity to showcase one of these acts in our future exhibits or programs.”
“Working with Live Nation and the Rock Hall creates an unparalleled opportunity for Tri-C to help students who have competed in the Rock Off jumpstart careers in music performance, marketing, promotion and recording technology,” adds David Kennedy, Director of Tri-C’s Recording Arts and Sciences program. “We help focus their passion and provide training, degrees, and job opportunities. Rock Off alumni work in the music industry, in recording studios, in concert halls and arenas, on tour, in equipment manufacturing, in broadcasting, in marketing and promotion, at the Rock Hall, at the House of Blues, and with Live Nation! The partnership with Live Nation and the Rock Hall gives the Tri-C students the opportunity to connect with artists and professionals in many meaningful and productive ways.”
In addition, the Rock Off has put together a special discounted Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum Family Roller membership packages (cost $70, normally $140). Each family membership will also receive a limited edition 20/20 Rock Off/Rock Hall Anniversary poster and T-Shirt designed by local graphic designer Derek Hess.
Prior to announcing the three bands that move on after each competition, there will be special performances by a select group of High School Rock Off alumni bands.
“This provides us a very cool way to celebrate our 20 years of nurturing young talent that were inspired by their participation in the Rock Off and continue to perform, write and make music today,” says Barry Gabel, Sr. VP of Marketing and Sponsorship for Live Nation.
Performances take place on Jan. 9, 16, 23 and 30. Round five takes place on Feb. 6 and the Final Exam is set for Feb. 13. Kiss FM will host the official website
