In a ceremony scheduled for November 19, Parma Mayor Tim DeGeeter will present the Key to the City to heavy metal drummer Jim Konya, who performed with NunSlaughter and Schnauzer and who passed away in September at age 44 after suffering two strokes.
The local metal community rallied around Konya
at the time, finding ways to support him and his family financially and emotionally.
"Beloved by thousands around the world, Jim touched the lives of everyone he met," reads a remembrance on BraveWords.com
. "Whether it was through selfless encouragement or his characteristically mischievous sense of humor, his impact on the worldwide metal and punk scenes was nothing but positive. "Jim Sadist" was most renowned for "devil metal" legends NunSlaughter, for whom he drummed for 20 years and across nearly a hundred releases, but for nearly as long, he drummed for Schnauzer and fronted (and occasionally drummed for) The Spawn Of Satan, who released the very first record on Hells Headbangers."
The presentation to Konya's parents will take place at the Cuyahoga County Library's Parma branch. Detailed info here:
