Dear Faculty, Staff & Students:
It is with mixed emotions that I announce the impending departure of Craig Boise who has served as the dean of the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law for the last five years. Dean Boise has been selected to serve as the next dean of the Syracuse University College of Law. This appointment highlights the tremendous strides Cleveland-Marshall has made under the dean's tenure, and I am certain he will provide the same dynamic leadership and positive results at Syracuse.
During his time at Cleveland-Marshall, Dean Boise developed a highly successful plan for raising the national profile of the college, while recruiting high quality students and expanding opportunities for fund raising and research. Due in large part to these successes, the College rose 29 places in the U.S. News and World Report rankings over that time, going from 135 to an all-time high of 106 this past year.
Dean Boise has also implemented a number of innovative programs designed to address the evolving legal employment market. This includes developing a Master of Legal Studies program for working professionals interested in expanding their expertise in law and contracts and the creation of the Solo Practitioner Incubator which assists attorneys in developing their own law practices.
To continue the upward trajectory of the College, we will move quickly to have discussions with faculty about appointing an interim dean and begin a national search for a permanent replacement.
Please join me in thanking Dean Boise for his service to the university and wishing him great success on the next chapter of his career.
