Jazz Is Phish Brings Hybrid Jams to Beachland Tonight

Phish's summer tour began last night in St. Paul, Minn., and that first show brought a number of bustouts ("Dear Prudence"!) and a sense of optimism about the weeks ahead.

Some of you in Cleveland may have already hopped on tour, and others may be waiting until this weekend's shows at Wrigley Field or Deer Creek. If so, tonight's show at the Beachland offers a little preamble for what's to come.

Jazz Is Phish, inspired by the work of Jazz Is Dead, brings its instrumental vibes to Cleveland tonight, distilling Phish's sound through a jazz fusion lens. With members of Trey Anastasio Band, Lettuce, Kung Fu, MS MR, The Chase Brothers and more, the band certainly has cred.

And this is not your standard tribute band.

"While the name is a direct nod to another band, the music is very unique," drummer Adam Chase said earlier this year. "When selecting the players for the project, it was important for me to have a variety of musicians from different musical backgrounds. I wanted some of the players to have grown up on Phish so they had the music in their DNA. For other players, I wanted them to have no preconceived notions of what our take on the music should be."
