A vigil for the Kuzniks at Mr. Cars in Collinwood, (4/21/17).
The Cleveland Division of Police announced Tuesday that they have made an arrest in the case of a double homicide at an auto lot in Collinwood. Owners Michael Kuznik and Trina Tomola-Kuznik, as well as their dog, were shot and killed at the Mr. Cars lot on Good Friday.
Police say they won't release any further suspect or arrest information as the investigation is still ongoing.
“Our concern is for all victims of crime and their families,” said Mayor Frank Jackson, in a press release. “While we’re happy to have gotten to this point, we will continue to work on the Kuznik case until all who are involved are brought to justice –this is still an open investigation.”
Later in the day, Cleveland City Council released the name of the arrested man. He is Joseph McAlpine, 29. McAlpine served nine years in prison for aggravated robbery and was released in August 2016. A press release stated that McAlpine is an alleged member of the Heartless Felons street gang.
The grisly Kuznik murders were overshadowed by the nationally publicized killing of Robert Godwin, two days later, in which gunman Steve Stephens posted video of the shooting to Facebook.
