Canton Area 7th Grader Shoots Self at School, Facilities on Lockdown

Some horrific, sad news out of Jackson Township this morning, though details are scarce at the moment.

A seventh grader at the Jackson Memorial middle school apparently suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound this morning around 7:30 a.m. Channel 19 reports the student was in a bathroom when it occurred. His parents have been notified; his condition is not being released.



The middle and high schools are on lockdown; four elementary schools will remain closed for the day.

The Canton Repository reports Jackson police and the officials from the state Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms are on scene. Channel 5 has some live coverage and aerial video, which you can watch below.
