For the fourth year in a row, MetroHealth is hosting a job fair for individuals that identify as transgender or gender non-conforming. Resources and workshops to aid in career development and job placement are available, in addition to workshops regarding social and professional networking.

As noted in the Human Rights Campaign's research paper  A Broken Bargain for Transgender Workers, “Despite the progress made at the local, state, and federal levels, transgender Americans face workplace discrimination at alarming rates."

According to a study from the Human Rights Campaign, transgender workers report unemployment at twice the rate of the population as a whole, 44 percent of transgender people currently working report being under employed and transgender workers are nearly four times more likely to have a household income of under $10,000.

“Unfair laws and policies impose real, everyday burdens on transgender workers across the country,” Ineke Mushovic, Executive Director of the Movement Advancement Project (MAP) told the HRC. “It’s shocking that in this day and age, federal non-discrimination law still does not explicitly protect a high-performing worker from being fired just because he or she is transgender.”

Participating employers include (but are not limited to) Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland Metroparks, Cuyahoga County Public Library, Giant Eagle, Hyland, Keller Williams, KeyBank, MetroHealth, PNC Bank and Starbuck's. The job fair will also feature a presentation from keynote speaker Nickie Antonio, representative from Ohio House District 13.

MetroHealth is also offering a free resume clinic/career fair readiness program on May 1st from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m., where people can have their resume reviewed by experts and get feedback from PNC recruiters and hiring managers on what they look for in potential candidates.

The job fair takes place Saturday, May 12, 2018 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., with a complimentary hot breakfast served at 8 a.m. Both the job fair and resume clinic will take place at MetroHealth's main campus, 2500 MetroHealth Drive, Cleveland, OH 44109.
