As we inch closer and closer to the opening of Ohio City Galley
, the innovative food hall and restaurant incubator setting up shop inside the historic Forest City Bank Building at the corner of West 25th and Detroit Avenue, we are beginning to get both a figurative and literal taste of what’s to come thanks to a series of pop-up events hosted by the chefs behind the stalls.
Tonight, chef Victor Searcy Jr. will be offering a sneak preview of some of the items he’ll be dishing out at Sauce the City, one of the four Ohio City Galley tenants. On tap will be Cleveland Hot Chicken, Summer Salad and his “Signature Street Corn.” Guests who come to Kitchen 216 (2800 Euclid Ave.) during the event, which runs from 6 to 9 p.m., can watch a live stream of the chef preparing the items in the kitchen.
This Saturday, September 8th, chef Anthony Zappola will be hosting a Rice Shop pop-up at his popular East Side restaurant Lox, Stock and Brisket
(13892 Cedar Rd.). Hopeful diners must secure a spot for either the 6 p.m. or 8 p.m. seating by purchasing a $25 ticket at Eventbrite
. All guests will receive portions of mochiko chicken with kung pao broccoli, Korean beef with bok choy, cucumbers, and kimchi vinaigrette, and Kentucky fried fish with cabbage slaw, jalapeno and hot sauce aioli.
On Sunday September 23rd, diners will have an opportunity to sample the foods of both chef Michael Nowak’s Mexican-themed Poca and chef Michael Schoen’s classic American concept Tinman.
From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Black Pig
(2801 Bridge Ave., 216-862-7551) in Ohio City will swap out its usual brunch menu for one starring Poca dishes like epazote omelet with housemade chorizo, tamales topped with fried eggs and mole, and pork pozole with braised pork, hominy and red chili broth. The dishes will be sold a la carte alongside tequila and mezcal fueled cocktails.
From 5 p.m. to midnight on the same day, Schoen will be taking over the kitchen of LBM
(12301 Madison Ave., 216-712-4692) in Lakewood. On the menu will be items like shoestring onions with horsey sauce, a diner-style double hamburger with cheese, sweet and spicy pickles and special sauce, fried bologna with pate, onions, morbier and brown mustard, and crispy chicken with mop sauce, pickled chiles and crispy garlic.
Look for Ohio City Galley to open its doors by mid- to late-October.
