ODOT Fines Another Contractor That Caused I-480 Traffic Jam by Failing to Finish Work Before Morning Rush Hour

For the third time in recent memory an ODOT contractor failed to finish up overnight work before the start of morning rush hour and caused a massive traffic jam.

This time it was on I-480 and the culprit was Karvo Companies, which was supposed to be finished with overnight work on Monday heading into Tuesday morning by 5 a.m. and instead hung around until 8. With only one lane open, I-480's usual cluster turned into a megacluster.

ODOT announced that it is fining Karvo $300 for every minute it went past the 5 a.m. deadline.

"We are working with the contractor to make sure this does not happen again," ODOT said in a release.

We'll update you when this inevitably happens again.
