33 Cleveland 5k Races to do This Summer

Spring is here and road race season is upon us. It's time to pound the pavement and there are a seemingly endless number of options that cover just about every geographic, philanthropic, goofy or serious race around Northeast Ohio through September. Check them out while you try to remember where you put your running sneakers.

1. Run Puritas - Saturday, May 4

This 5k and one mile walk takes place on Puritas Ave (meeting place 13812 Bellaire Ave.). Both races are $20 with the one mile run beginning at 8:30 a.m. and the 5k beginning at 9 a.m. Find out more here.

2. Walk, Rock and Run - Saturday, May 4

Walk, Rock and Run is hosted by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and is put on by The Diversity Center of Northeast Ohio along with Medical Mutual of Ohio. Proceeds from the race are going to support The Diversity Center’s School and Youth Programming around Northeast Ohio. The race steps off at 8:30 a.m. and is $35 before April 30. Find out more here.

3. Race to Empower - Sunday, May 5

Race to Empower supports the United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of Greater Cleveland. A 5k and 10k begin at 9 a.m. at 10011 Euclid Ave. and a one mile fun run starts at 9:10 a.m. The run is $25 before May 3 and $30 the day of. Find out more here.

4. Amazing AKA 5k - Saturday, May 11

This 5k benefits the Minority Organ and Tissue Transplant Education Program and starts at the Western Reserve Historical Society (10825 East Blvd.) Pre-registration is $25 and race-day registration is $30. Find out more here.

5. Run/Walk for Hunger - Saturday, May 11

Beginning and ending at the Great Lakes Science Center at 8:45 a.m., proceeds from the Run/Walk for Hunger help provide meals for those in need. Pre-registration is $30 and day-of is $40. Find out more here.

6. Rite Aid Cleveland - Saturday, May 18

As part of the Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon, a 5k, 8k and one mile race are taking place on Saturday. The 8 a.m. 5k is $45 and sets off in Public Square. Find out more here.

7. Stonewall Pride Run - Friday, May 31

Taking place at Edgewater Park, this race is the region’s first that has three categories - male, female, and gender non-conforming. The 5k is $25 before race day, $30 on race day, and all proceeds go to the LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland. Find out more here.

8. St. Mark Run for the Arts - Saturday, June 1

This 5k race benefits the art education program at St. Marks School and starts at 9 a.m. at the school (15724 Montrose Ave.). $15. Find out more here.

9. West Side Catholic Center Pancake Run - Saturday, June 1

Runners get pancakes at the end of this race that also benefits West Side Catholic Center programs. The 5k begins at the West Side Catholic Center (3135 Lorain Ave.) and is $25 pre-race, $30 day-of. Find out more here.

10. Team Hope Walk/Run - June 2

The Team Hope Walk and Run is taking place at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and supports the Huntington’s Disease Society of America (HDSA). The 5k starts at 8:30 a.m. and is $25. Find out more here.

11. Big Run - Wednesday, June 5

To celebrate Global Running Day, Big Run races are being held throughout the country and the Big Run Cleveland is taking place at Edgewater Park. The race begins at 5:30 p.m. and is $25, or $30 the day of. Find out more here.

12. Great Inflatable Race - Saturday, June 8

This fun 5k begins at 9 a.m. at 7777 Victory Ln. in North Ridgeville. It includes an obstacle course of inflatables and proceeds go to a Special Wish Foundation. General tickets are $75 per person or discounted if you sign up earlier with a group. Find out more here.

13. Purplestride Cleveland - Saturday, June 8

PurpleStride Cleveland is a race to end pancreatic cancer. The 5k is at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo (4101 Fulton Parkway) and begins at 8:30 a.m. Individual tickets are $35 before race day and $40 day of. Find out more here.

14. Slavic Village Pierogi Dash - Sunday, June 9

The Slavic Village Pierogi Dash commences at promptly 9 a.m. at 7100 Aetna Rd. The run is $25 and $30 on the day of the race. You also get pierogies when the race is finished! Find out more here.

15. Black Light Run - Saturday, June 8

The Black Light Run starts at 9:30 p.m. at 19201 E. Bagley Rd. and is $40, which includes a t-shirt, finisher medal, temporary tattoo, donation to a charity and admission to the after party. Find out more here.

16. Ohio City Run and Crawl - Saturday, June 15

This race is exactly what it sounds like: Run a 5k and then drink beer afterward at Market Garden Brewery, where the races takes off at 7 p.m. This run is $25. Find out more here.

17. Running with a Mission - Saturday, June 15

Run with a mission at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo (3900 Wildlife Way) at 8:30 a.m. Proceeds from this race go to Laura’s Home Women’s Crisis Center. Find out more here.

18. Race for Kids -
Saturday, June 22

Race for Kids is a race to benefit kids that takes place at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo (3900 Wildlife Way). The 5k starts at 8:30 a.m. and registration is $30, which includes activities and zoo admission for the whole day. Find out more here.

19. Resiliency Run - Saturday, June 22

Beginning at the MetroHealth Medical Center at 9 a.m., the resiliency run helps support individuals and families who come to MetroHealth for critical conditions, like burns, trauma and stroke. This 5k costs $30 and $35 day of. Find out more here.

20. Escape on the Lake 5k - July 13

This race begins at Villa Angela - St. Joseph High School (18491 Lakeshore Blvd.) at 9 a.m. and finishes right on the lakeshore. Tickets are $25 and $30 day of. Find out more here.

21. Parrot Head Run - July 13

Proceeds from the Parrot Head Run go toward Fostering Hope, a nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of children in foster care. The race begins at 10:30 at Margaritaville (1150 Front Ave.) and is $30 until race day when the price increases to $35. Find out more here.

22. Lakewood Summer Meltdown - July 13

Another evening run starting at 7 p.m., this race is a part of a bigger street festival that takes place in the historic district of Lakewood. The 5k is also a fundraiser for Lakewoodalive and is $25 until June 30, $30 until race day, and $35 on race day. Find out more here.

23. Will Run for Tacos

Though this run is a bit longer than a 5k, it’s worth it because of tacos. The four mile race begins at promptly 9 a.m. and includes a complimentary taco. Registration is $30 and increases to $35 the day of the race. Find out more here.

24. Outrun Ovarian Cancer - Aug. 3

Participants in this 5k are going to be outrunning ovarian cancer as they race from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1100 Rock and Roll Blvd.) through Cleveland. The 5k begins at 8:30 a.m. and is $25 pre-registration and $30 day of. Find out more here.

25. W.A.G.S. Wonder Run 5k - Aug. 3

This superhero-themed 5k takes place at Coe Lake in Berea and begins at 10 a.m. Proceeds go to support service animals who help kids and train service dogs who assist kids with special needs. pre-registration is $20-$25 and day of is $30. Find out more here.

26. Hofbrauhaus Cleveland Half Marathon - Aug. 4

The Hofbrauhaus 5k takes place downtown (1550 Chester Ave.) and gets participants a free beer after finishing. The race is $30 until June 30, and increases to $35 until race day. Find out more here.

27. Sunset Sprint 5k - Aug. 9

Race participants get to run along Lake Erie and enjoy the sunset at the Sunset Sprint, which begins on the lower level of Edgewater Park (4101 Fulton Parkway). Pre-registration is $30, and $35 the day of the race. Find out more here.

28. Glenville Heritage Run - Aug. 10

This race begins at 9 a.m. at Gardenview Hills Park (East 88th St. and St. Clair Ave.) and is $25 pre-registration, $30 day of. Find out more here.

29. Run for Recovery 5k - Saturday, Aug. 17

Happening during National Recovery month, Run for Recovery is a race that benefits people battling with mental health illness and substance abuse. The race takes place at 8:30 a.m. at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo (4101 Fulton Parkway) and is $25. Find out more here.

30. Rock Hall Half Marathon - Sunday, Aug. 18

The 5th annual Rock Hall half marathon, 5k and 10k earn participants a free ticket to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The 5k race begins at 7:45 a.m. at the Rock Hall (1100 Rock and Roll Blvd.) and is $30. Find out more here.

31. ZERO Prostate Cancer Run - Aug. 24

Run to help end prostate cancer at this 5k race, which takes place in Middleburg Heights (6900 Pearl Rd.) and starts at 8:45 a.m. The race is $20 in advance, $25 day of. Find out more here.

32. Cleveland Beer 5k - Aug. 31

Run for beer at the Cleveland Beer 5k and get some sweet swag. This race starts at Jacobs Pavilion @ Nautica (2014 Sycamore St.) and begins at 2 p.m. Early registration is $45 until May 31, then $50 through Aug. 30 and $60 the day of the race. Find out more here.

33. Cleveland Clinic Brain Aneurysm Awareness 5k run/walk - Saturday, Sept. 14

All proceeds from this race support research and patient resources at the Cleveland Clinic. The race takes place at the Mastick Picnic Area in the Metroparks (27 Buick St. Fairview Park) and begins at 7:30 a.m. $30. Find out more here.

34. Cleveland Clinic Wellness Jungle Run 5k - Sept. 15

A portion of the proceeds from this race go to VeloSano Kids, which supports cancer research at the Cleveland Clinic. Starting at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo (3900 Wildlife Way) at 9 a.m., this race is $20 through May 31 and $30 though Sept. 13. Find out more here.
