Scott Andrew Mills on Saturday announced on his personal Facebook page his intended run for mayor of Highland Heights. It's actually the second shot at the office for the Maverick Insurance principal and agent.
Mills ran unsuccessfully in 2011 against Scott Coleman, who had been mayor since 2004 but who resigned this past year after allegations he embezzled $80,000 from Rep. Dave Joyce's re-election campaign, pulling just 24 percent of the vote.
He believes in many of the same things that motivated him the first time, but one thing is different. The "M4M — Mills for Mayor" signs and branding from his first campaign will be replaced with something not so easily confused with the more broadly understood shorthand used in personals for a man seeking a man, generally for romantic or sexual interactions.
"I used the signs the first time I ran for mayor eight years ago and thought about using them again," Mills told Scene, "however MANY folks reminded me of the other meaning and decided to go in a different direction and a re-branding for this campaign."
So while he did post the signs over the weekend, with accompanying Facebook pics, that was only for the announcement, he said. Sunday evening brought a new pic of the signs stacked next to the garbage with a note: "As we say goodbye to the old signs! Watch for the NEW logo coming soon!"
Hopefully he checks with someone who has used the internet before finalizing the next logo.
