A flurry of breaking news articles this morning relayed that staff at the Cuyahoga County Jail were conducting a headcount and that the facility was on emergency lockdown.

That was quickly followed with an explanation as to why: an inmate named Ferdinand Torres-Vargas has apparently, somehow, escaped from the troubled jail. reports he escaped either last night or early this morning, though officials haven't said exactly when they noticed he was missing. The Marshals are currently searching for him.

They also note that the jail is, by law, required to alert local media when an inmate escapes. No alert to local media was made.

As Fox 8 reported, Torres-Vargas, after a previous arrest in 2015 for domestic violence, also escaped custody years ago.
